Most group dog obedience training classes are geared for the masses. Not taking into consideration that your puppy or dog has an individual personality.

Not all Yorkies, or German Shepherds are the same, or learn in the same way. Some are high strung, some are timid, yet others have a “middle of the road” personality. That's why you need to find the right dog training books.

But, there are other dog products like DVD's that get right to the actual training methods and how to use them.

We've opted to list dog training DVD's here too. Sometimes it can be a little easier to see what's happening rather than read it.

Our all time favorite, David Dikeman's Command Performance, the only caveat is that it's only available on VHS for now, and it's a little visually dated (made in the 80's). But the techniques are on the money with most types of dogs. We tried to order the 20th anniversary edition thru his website, only to never receive the item. A real bummer.

But, here are some that you just might find useful:

It's PAWSible! Dog Training and Puppy Training DVD - a basic obedience course that suggests about 5 weeks of training. You'll go through a week-by-week suggested schedule with demonstrations on training with dogs that have NOT been previously trained. You might want to watch and listen to each segment a few times because there's a lot of information in each segement.

Your Puppy 8 Weeks to 8 Months DVD - Geared toward the new or first time puppy owner, this dog training video helps to answer all of the questions you may have concerning the care of a new puppy. With this method you learn to be firm, consistent, and how all of that and more can build a good, solid relationship between puppy and owner.
