How To House Train A
Puppy

How
to House Train Your Puppy
House
training is interesting, because it many ways it is natural for your
pet – no dog wants to pee in its home unless it does not know there is
another, better place available. But house training is also something
that you need to do carefully, and do not forget that there will be a
few accidents down the road.
Crate
Train First
Puppy
training begins with crate training. It is much easier to house train
once you have crate trained your puppy. Despite what it may seem, dogs,
by their very nature, are clean animals. Yes, they may like to roll
around in dirt on occasion, but they absolutely do not want to sleep in
their own waste. Inside a crate, there is no room to make waste, so a
properly crate trained puppy will hold its waste until it has a chance
to go out.
House
Training Your Puppy
In order to house train your
puppy, you need to follow these simple steps:
-
Let your puppy go to the
bathroom outside, shower it with praise and a treat.
-
Bring it back inside.
-
Let your puppy eat and
drink its food.
-
Put your puppy in the
crate after it has eaten its full and had a fair share of water.
-
Leave your puppy in the
crate for one to three hours depending on the age of your puppy.
-
After that time is over,
put your puppy on a leash and take it outside.
-
The
first best place to take it to is the spot it went to the bathroom
before it went in the crate, but you may need to walk your puppy around
a while in case it wants to find a new spot. Once it pees and poops,
shower it with praise and a treat.
-
Repeat
this process over the course of several days. Always be sure and praise
your pet considerably for going outside. Pretty soon it will pick up on
how going outside is good, and inside is bad.
