Puppy Training Tips To Help You Train Your Puppy
5 Things to Know
About Training a Puppy
New dog owners are no doubt in love with
their cute new puppy. Puppies are fluffy
and full of energy and love,
and no matter how tough you are it is hard to watch a puppy play for
hours and not be completely overwhelmed with affection for the little
doggy. However, even as a baby, puppy training
needs to occur, and if you want your puppy to grow up into a healthy
and well behaved dog, you need to learn the following puppy training
tips.
Things To Know
About Puppy Training
Puppies need to learn at a very young age
that they are and always will be subordinate to you. It is very hard to
be firm with a puppy, but a dog that grows up knowing its place is not
only going to be better behaved, it is going to live longer as well.
No dog of any age understands what you are
saying, despite how often it feels like they do. But puppies,
especially, have not learned to pick up on little cues from your voice
or mannerisms, so do not get frustrated or upset if your puppy is not
responding as you would like.
As you
train your puppy, make sure that you
understand the value of good training. Dogs of all ages have very short
memories – when you are house training your puppy, for example, and
your puppy has an accident inside your house while you are not looking,
grabbing your little dog and shoving its nose in the poop will not
teach it not to poop indoors. Chances are your dog has already
forgotten that it pooped, and all you are doing is making it afraid of
the smell that you have shoved in its face. Puppies that are improperly
punished can grow up poorly trained and neurotic (in the poop example,
these dogs are often found hiding their poop or eating it to hide the
evidence so that you do not punish them).
Studies have shown that dogs trained at a
young age grow up to be more intelligent than other dogs. But even
without that truth, a well trained puppy is far more likely to grow up
to be a well trained adult dog. Start young.
You need to get your dog used to other dogs,
strangers, family members and pets at a very early age. Many bad
behaviors are the result of not being properly socialized to strange
things, and the earlier you start, the better.
Puppy training is a long and fun process
that involves careful actions and a little bit of patience. But it will
help you bond to your dog for life, as well as help you raise a well
behaved and intelligent animal.
